あんなにも人に嫌われ憎まれていた人が、晩年にこんなにも人に尊敬され愛されたのは極めて希有な例ではないかと思う。それが僕にとっては大きな驚きであり、衝撃だ。

人に嫌われるくらいの人間でないと、これだけの偉業を成し遂げることができなかっただろうと僕は確信している。そしてたとえ嫌われてもやり遂げる人を僕はとても好きだ。でも普通は、世間はそういう人が嫌いだ。

人としてはちょっと欠陥人間だったような彼が（失礼な言い方でごめんなさい）、最期にはこんなにたくさんの人に感謝され、悼まれている。彼はこんなに多くの人に、こんなにも尊敬され、愛されていたのだ。
